Due to updates in the Engineering calculations, some gable design applications can now span further, with less posts, this is a general improvement and may not be suitable for all applications. There has also been a change to the design methodology for gables with Insulated sheeting, LLD uses the ceiling to support the sheet, it allows for overhangs and a 22 degree fascia flashing to support the Gutter.
